Going to the Movies

Today was the postponed Valentine day. After searching the internet for movies playing in the Daytona Beach area, Dee selected Secretariat. At the last minute she changed her mind and decided we should go see The King’s Speech with Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush. Now for those who know me, it would probably not have been on my list of movies to see but since it was Valentine, I bit my tongue and off to the movies we went. Since this was a Tuesday night we lucked in to the “Tuesday night special” of $5.00 per ticket and free parking! At least it would not be a total lost!

We went to the Ocean Walk 10 theatre located near the Beach. Yes, there are 10 screening rooms. It is part of a complex where many entertainment establishments are located. After paying the tickets and getting the mandatory popcorn, we found the theatre were the King’s Speech was to be screened. I noticed at the entrance that this screening room had a limit for 250 patrons. As we entered we were surprised to find only one another couple! A whole theatre for four patrons! It was not difficult finding the best seats in the house.

As for the movie, I was very surprised with the acting and how the movie was directed. Who would have thought that a movie based on one speech could be so interesting and I must say worthy of its Oscar nominations. On a scale of 1 to 10 Dee and I agreed it deserved a solid 8! To think that some people would not believe I have an open mind!

We ended the evening at Applebee’s for a late dinner. We finished our meal before the Karaoke started so unfortunately or fortunately, we probably missed some Idol type performances.

Thrift Shops and Pawn Shops

Today we woke up to some rain showers, sunshine and 70 degrees. Not certain what the weather would be during the day Dee suggested that we visit a few thrift shops and a few pawn shops. I was looking for nothing in particular but was hoping to find a deal on tools. At our first stop a pawn shop, I found the tools overpriced and I ended up buying two DVDs. Our next stop was a thrift shop and it was heaven for Dee! How many purses does a woman need? Dee found a trove of them at a thrift shop and bought some! How many? I don’t know but if she continues to acquire more, she will be known as the Imelda Marco of purses! Oh yes, we also acquired a lamp, and a few trinkets. At the next thrift shop, Dee found two glass mugs and a few more trinkets. When we got home Dee decided to make coffee and use the new mugs. Well apparently these mugs should have been used for beer and not coffee! The glass on both cracked at the handles and they ended up in the recycling bin! I guess a loss of $1.00 is bearable.
