Leesburg
Like any other Sunday morning; it starts with breakfast. As Denis and I prepared the eggs and toast we discussed what was on the agenda and we decided we would take a trip up the highway north to Leesburg.
Leesburg is Lake County’s oldest city and at one time was the county seat while a part of Sumter County. The city claimed 1857 as its birthday when Leesburg celebrated its centennial in 1957, recognizing the year that the city’s namesake, Evander Lee, and his family came to the area.
It was a 30 minute drive and we saw signs that indicated an Arts and Craft Fair in the town so we went. There were lots of paintings, pottery, glass and jewellery designers and of course the always present kettle corn and fast food sellers. There was also a vintage cars display which although small in comparison to some car shows, some of the vehicles were rare and very nice (see pictures). In the business area of the town, where the festival was staged, there is a park and a bandstand where a guy playing guitar. We stopped to enjoy his blues tunes while Keisha drank from the fountain.
In the evening Denis took part in a Texas holdem tournament and came in third place! Not a big stake but more than the buy-in.
Monday March 7th
More Golf
It’s a golf day today and Denis and I played with a couple from St. Thomas Ontario; John and Carolyn. They stay here for the full six months. I didn’t bring the camera and of course I had opportunity’s to take a picture of an alligator. We didn’t lose as many balls today and in fact we even found some!
We finished around 6pm and came back to the trailer and had dinner. After, I took off to the pool and spent the next hour in the hot tub watching the beautiful Florida sunset. The sky went from orange to mauve. I was alone the whole time and it was so nice to have the peaceful time to reflect on the wonderful time spent in Florida and how easy it has been to be here.
Tuesday March 8th
Lake Louisa State Park
We woke to a really nice hot day and decided that we would look into Major League Baseball spring training games and while researching we discovered it to be quite expensive $30 for a Blue Jays game. So, we had a change of plan and decided to go to the hockey game on March 29th between the Tampa Bay Lightening and the Ottawa Senators. Tickets with all you can eat hot dogs and nachos and pop sold for $33.00 US. Not a bad deal. In Ottawa these tickets would be much more. But as Denis said “its Florida” nuff said.
We headed to Lake Louisa about 20 minutes down the highway. It's a beautiful state park and it had a nice beach where Keisha could play soccer and run with some kids. Here are some pictures.
