Packing Day / Clerbrook RV Resort and Golf

Packing Day

Monday was our last full day at the Daytona RV Resort and the temperature was in the 80’s. While Dee was at the pool floating on her new inflatable chair and socializing with some of the residents, I started to put away the camping paraphernalia one acquires over the course of years travelling and amazingly we even use the stuff. In between untangling Keisha from the rope she manages to wrap around the picnic table, the trailer jacks, the neighbours clothes line, I managed to stow away everything and all that remained the next morning was basically to hook up the trailer and drive to the next destination.

In the meantime, a forest fire was burning about 30 miles from us and it had consumed more than 5,000 acres by nightfall and the I-95 was closed for most of the day. The state police had to evacuate an RV park because it was threaten by the fire. Hopefully, the fire will not affect our drive to Clermont.

Clerbrook RV Resort and Golf

We awoke to pouring rain and thunder. This was welcomed relief as the forest fire was still burning and by then has consumed 13,000 acres. The I-95 was still closed and with help of high winds, the fire had spreads from Bevard County to Volusia County. Daytona Beach is located in Volusia County. It was sticky hot when we left and saying goodbye to our new friends was difficult. We will see some of them in August when we all gather in Pembroke Ontario.

The drive to Clermont took only two hours. We arrived at noon at the Clerbrook Resort and we were pleased to see that our site was very big and there is lots of room for Keisha to play soccer. Unfortunatly the site did not have cable as advertised and we had to make arrangements for Comcast to come the next day to install the equipement!

Dee promises to take some pictures and update to the blog in a few days. Hopefully she will be able to get some pictures of alligators (the sign says not to feed them!) and big huge gray cranes that we saw when we came in.

We headed to Wal-Mart to do groceries and back in time to visit the pro shop to inquire about the golf. It is a short 18-hole (5,500 yards) golf course. Residents are encouraged to join the various leagues that are organized by the Club. Women play on Tuesdays and Men play on Wednesday’s and couple’s play on Thursday. Also there are open tee times if you just want to go out and play 9 or 18 holes. The cost with cart for the month is $220.00 per couple. We plan on getting our monies worth by playing three times a week.

There is also a bridge club and a shuffle board league. Denis plans to join the bridge club and I will join the shuffle board league (I did play when I was a kid in Laura’s basement) it’s been a while but it is something like curling so I should catch on fast. We are getting cable and internet on Wednesday. We hope to have better internet service by getting the internet through the cable company. Hopefully, Skype will perform much better when we talk with family and friends.

Our new neighbours are from Manitoba and Tennessee. They came over to the RV to say hello when we arrived. The same thing happened in Daytona Beach. People are just so friendly and helpful.

This month will bring lots of golf and Disney World, and Universal Studios and a huge flea market is also here. Lots of pictures to come and as always thanks for following us!!
